Subject: Expectations?

Pittsburg, Kansas
Today is a different time and age with different expectations.

As a young man I remember my dad, being married in the depth of the great depression, saying a couple things about youth.

He said if a parent hadn't got a son taught about the way to act by the time they were 14 they had probably failed, because by that age the parents influence compared to their peers and life experience was small.

He also said by the time a boy was 16 he was a man and expected to do a mans work. He never finished high school. Was not completely unusual for that time for a girl of 15 or 16 to be married. I had a couple aunts that were.

It seems in some ways we have a lot lower expectations for today's youth. Maybe that is part of the problem?

I am not claiming that. Just questioning. Because in my own self evaluation, I was a poor parent. Fortunately I myself had great parents.
