| I am 22 now, and I started operating tractors and equipment probably when I was 8 or 9. Imo in the modern tractors that we have now, is there a safer place then in them? With the ROPS cabs and seatbelts that they have, it has to be one of the safest places to be. I have seen 50 year olds way more reckless and dimwitted operating farm equipment then the way I operated it in 4th or 5th grade. Obviously you take the time to train the kid and make sure he is capable of doing it before you just throw him to the wolves. Also many were saying kids nowadays aren't capable this and that, they play video games. Well I think it all depends on the upbringing. If the kid is always out there helping, he is going to learn to respect equipment etc. But if they are basically town kids that never work outside on the farm obviously that is a different story. And, I played video games growing up in moderation, and was still plenty capable of working on the farm or operating equipment at a young age.
