West Michigan | Here are a few links for those of you who seem to uneducated on farm safety.
Each year, approximately 70 children ages 14 and under die from injuries occurring on a farm. In 2001, 22,600 children were injured while living on, working on or visiting U.S. farms. Although the total number of injuries has decreased significantly in recent years, the rate of childhood farm-related injuries has only dropped slightly.
A 1998 survey released in 2001 by the National Injury and Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimates that approximately 1.9 million youth under theage of 20 years either work or live on farms. Of these youth less than 10 years of age were estimated to have the highest number of injuries at approximately 11,000 and the highest work-related injury rate at 14 injuries per 1,000 workers. In addition, an estimated 104 children younger than 20 years of age die of agricultural injuries on US farms and ranches each year.
