I think you need to watch some junior kart races someday. There are kids that age who could teach a lot of 'professional' adult drivers a few things about racecraft. Racing is about as pure of a test of driving ability as there is, and in today's world you will be hard pressed to find a top driver who had not won a championship by the time they were in their teens. My guess is that I could not stay on the track with any of them.
