Subject: Re: Putting Grain Boxes on old Highway Tractors

Swift Current, Sask
The only truck that will have trouble with being unstable are the KW's with the 8 bag air ride. There are alot of old semi trucks with boxes that are on airride around in our area. No problems. I wouldn't want a truck with spring suspension for the ride. I know the difference between a spring ride and an airride hopper trailer. It is not near as nice with the spring ride, even on nice smooth new highways.

To answer the original question, I would see no need to double frame a truck if you are putting a box on it. All you are doing is adding a place where salt can lay and corrode, and you can't wash it properly. Guys haul 55000 lb loads legally here with no trouble. At harvest it is alot more, usually 6-700 bus of wheat (60000+ lbs), plus coming out of fields, unloading on the go, going through water runs, etc. Biggest key is to not overdo it and get rough and rammy.
