Last fall was NOT a good drying year. Corn out of the field at 20+% and air temps in the 40s or lower.

That 10,000 bushel example on 1000 gallons of LP was at least 20 years ago when LP was probably 40 cents a gallon or less. It was a 10 hp fan run a month 24/7. Screaming axial. And it was good drying weather with the afternoon highs probably averaging 73 degrees for the month. Could probably have dried in 6 or 8 weeks with no propane. I figure $777 for electricity, at 12 cents a KWH (Iowa Power) back then. That's figuring 30 days 24 hours a day 9 KW to the motor. Nothing for stirrator. And a lot of stirrator action could have added up. It was really nice corn having been dried so gently. I don't think that bin was used that way again. I wasn't asked after that. Maybe there's a reason. I don't remember the beginning moisture.
