Nevada, Iowa
Mid West Plan Service has some decent publications available thru extension. There are some online excerpts: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Publications/PM1016.pdf

There were no inexpensive drying systems in cen. Iowa last fall. I did some drying similar to what you described and had similar results. I finally gave in and hauled some of it to the elevator. I am still not convinced that they were not drying cheaper than me.

Unless I have figured incorrectly, in your example, electrical usage on a 10 hp fan (I am assuming here) for a month with some stirator usage probably cost at least 1200. Couple that with 2000 dollars of propane and that should make 32 cents in drying charges per bushel without any annual equipment charges or in and out expense. The variable is the moisture content but there wasn't much corn harvested under 18% here last fall. Very strange harvest, I hope we don't see that again anytime soon!
