Subject: RE: Question on a pond by a house???

What is the elevation of the house/basement in relation to the surface of the pond?

If the pond is lower, it probably isn't the problem.

If the pond and basement are essentially at the same elevation or if the pond is slightly higher, has a cutoff trench with a french drain (gravel/perforated tile) close to the pond been considered?

Might save a good bit of the yard, but might also drain the pond.  Could go deeper much easier there than next to house. Would definitely be much easier to accomplish than dealing with drains and utilities up close to the house.

edited:  If you do choose to try this, be EXTREMELY careful and wary of possible trench cave-ins.  Potentially a very hazardous situation.
