If using 18-46-0 close to a root zone there is an excellent possibility of root damage and seedling death. Availablities and prices of 18-46-0, 11-52-0 and 0-46-0 will vary region to region. My personal preference is to "broadcast" as much fertility as possible, and keep a planter running as opposed to sitting loading.
Now all that being said if "you" have a method that works for you, and you are getting acceptable results(AKA turning a positive cash flow), don't mess with it.
