| We've been freeze branding black cows since 1982. Brand the hrs @ about 10-11 months. Works pretty good. We still use tags but the freeze brands eliminate confusion when a cow loses a tag. Sometimes the brand can be a little hard to read in late Feb or march, but a clipper makes things better if your running them in the chute for some reason or another. We've used the engravable Ritchie tags for years and won't go back to the ink tags. In our AI program having a tag to read when heat detecting along with a freeze brand just makes things a little easier. And the older the crew gets, the more we appreciate little things that ease the work load on the feet. | |
