Western Nebraska | We have used Z tags and like about every other tag, retention is so-so. The thing that really stinks on Z tags are their readability. We have tried several of their different printing schemes and within just a year or two they are completely unreadable. These were put in calves and we have retagged nearly every single animal that we put a printed tag in. That is why we went to Ritchey tags. Retention is about the same as any other tags we have used, but you don't ever have to worry about them fading out. Some of the color schemes are harder to read than others. I think one of the hardest to read is the black with white lettering. We have yellow with black printing this year and they are pretty easy to read. You are always going to lose some to your facilities, I think the bigger issue is which one retains the readability best and so far Ritchey has done that far better than any of the other choices.
