Kankakee??? Why & where? Probably more than ever will be gunshy this yr of wheat. Nothing seemed really terrible during the winter or spring...but I'd guess the majority of the winter wheat got destroyed in favor of corn this past spring here. Much of it looked OK 'til the last minute. Some didn't make the destroy decision in time & had to ride out 30-40 bus wheat. Like others say, unless you get the wheat knocked out by 6/30 & get the dbl crop beans in (don't forget to factor new seed cost...used to be easier gamble w/bin-runs), it's risky on dbl crop beans....though they look good here now. A killing frost this wkend could end all that though. But, it's not fcst. It's gonna get cold, but probably not freeze. Straw market? Where & what kind? Store where? What size bales? Sell to broker? Will he get straw off in time for you to get beans in (within 24 hrs of combining)? Lots of "luck" required w/plan you outline. Some hit 0% of it this yr, some 50%, & a few hit 100%. It's not a shoe-in decision for sure. |
