Subject: Wheat vs. Corn - 2008

What is keeping the high yielding dirt farmers in the I states from planting wheat for 2008? I look at it as on the 200 bu corn ground I can grow 90bu wheat x $5.00/bu = $450 plus 30bu dc beans * $9/but = $270 grosses $720, plus potential straw income of $30-$40/acre. Or they can plant corn for 200bu X $3.50 = $700, and require twice ther fertilizer, much more expensive chemicals, and lots of RW and CB pressures. What is the wheat price it would take to get some of these BTO's to start looking at shifting some acreage?

Eddie
