Genoa City, WI | Double crop beans don't work at all in the northern 1/3 of Illinois, and it's a crap shoot in the central 1/3. When I was near Kankakee, I had one or two customers who would try it, but I don't think they ever got anywhere. The wheat comes out just a bit too late. Even here in southern Iowa it's a crap shoot...I've got some doublecrop beans out with two customers right now, and they look excellent (rains in late July and August really brought them on), but I think they're going to get frost killed.
Straw market is also really hit or miss.
Take out those two things, and you're looking at 60bu wheat at $5 offers $300. Compared to 180 bu corn at $3.50 making $630...no brainer. | |
