Subject: Re: My crop tour

Springfield, MN
If I could tell from our area about 30 miles west of New Ulm.

Dry until the recent rains, but that is too late to do much good. Early sweet corn is very good, with many fields in the 7 to 8 plus tons per acre. Normal is maybe 6.5 - 7 ton. Field corn has short ears but well filled. Stalks are weak with some starting to lodge, so timely harvest will be a must. The silage guys are already at it and say the corn yield looks short this year with areas of short ears and no ears. Other spots look good. The talk is the outside rows look a lot better than in the fields.

Crop is maybe 7 to 10 days ahead of normal. There could still be 200 bu yields but with all the heat it will be less on average.
