Subject: Re: Why Plant Double-crop Soybeans?

On my farm, I don't plant DC beans due to crop rotation and yield potential reasons. My rotations are based on the soil quality of what I farm. My A soils are in a SB/corn rotation. My lesser soils are in a SB/SB/wheat rotation. When the wheat comes off on my farm, I mow the stubble imediately where I have clover growing or I mow the other (without clover) later in the Summer. I use the clover as a soil built up and maybe for a hay crop. Sowing DC beans just doesn't make any sense to me for rotation reasons. Additionally, I never anticipate a rain in late Summer. Some of my neignbors go to cut a 40 of DC beans and never need to empty to grain tank. Life is too short to tackle that risk. It is true that some years they do raise a good crop but I am not going to join the DC beans bandwagon anytime soon.
