frederick, MD | Triticale silage is working great for us. I have found it is very digestable. I cant get the protein levels that j sheenan gets but I dont put that much N on it. I usually put about 100 lbs on it at green up, normally around the end of feburary. We cut it in the boot stage. Plant it as soon as you can in the fall. I have planted it as early as the 3rd week of August. Then you will really get the yield, about the 3-4 tons of dry matter that sheenan said.
We have planted wheat rye and barley in the past. Wheat the yield is lower, rye and barley got to crap if you let them get to far along. Triticale seems to feed well even if it gets a little to old . | |
