| last time I was in Zumbrota Minn. sale barn they were selling tonners,,,,thats what I called them anyway, 1800 to 2100 pound steins that when announced on a self feeder brought MUCH more money. I could not believe my eyes,,,they were bringing more than best blacks that walk back home. Always heard it took 200 days on full feed to get a steiner to grade. Dirty little secret,,,packers discounted steins here big time,,,to fill packer chains same packers were paying those premium Zumbrota prices for steins and trucking them back here when necessary,,,but if I asked for decent price,,,no-never!!!. Packers screw the socks off locals raising steins here. If you want decent price have to ship to packerland yourself and truckin aint cheap for a 600-700 mile ride,,,plus shrink factor. Other factor is steins will lose more weight in a good rippin blizzard, long storm 'here' in 80 below wind chill A well protected wind break is gold.
