the bit about the more you pay the less you get. For a while we tried ramping up the starting wage and advertising entry level milking at between $16.00 -18.00 /hr. I still don't really understand why but the people we had applying (yes, we had more applicants at those levels) were absolute garbage. Worse than when I advertise at 14 -15.00/hr. Seems like that level will bring out those that just see the per hour rate even though they have no intention of ever doing that kind of job. longest that stayed around when we tried that was 3 weeks, most gone in a day, best (or worst) was 5 minutes into a shift. When we are advertising lower wages, those that do apply (if you get some) and they show up, are more realistic about what they expect from the job. Starting them there and quickly increasing the pay when they show some promise seems to work better.
