Thanks, Ryan. This calf weighs about 75-80 lb. Believe me - I know. I've carried him around quite a bit! But I can still pick him up fairly easily so he's not near as big as yours.

It's just the right front now and he was standing and putting some weight on it even before I put the splint on it today. I suspect his pastern will be better tomorrow and I can remove the bandage. Weather is not looking good though.

One thing about cattle - there is always something new to learn, especially cow/calf. Heifers can also be headaches. 

And some folks are expecting a rapid increase in US cattle numbers????!  I think every new cattle trader in the futures markets should spend a spring with a northern cow/calf operation...

I appreciate you sharing your experience.
