New Mexico | end up with right at 70 to 75% calfing in the spring and 25 to 30% fall calfing ( just how it always ends up ).
Basically you'll work em 3 to 4 times per year, 4 sorts etc..
OK deal, but the trich risk gets high.
Much better off to simply pull bulls for the 3 to 6 months ( or whatever works for you and the enviro ) that you do NOT want calves.
Nother thing...depends on the places, elevations, moisture seson, best time to calf per place/area...run the bulls for 60 to 90 days on a set, rest em 6 weeks then put em on another set.
( works pretty good if you have a spring calfing deal...and have a late summer/early fall calfing deal for examples )
( btw, if your running bulls hard, synching, changing em to other cow sets etc...Trich test the bulls EVERY rest period between sets of cows )
That way if you ever end up with a definite trich ( keep in mind there's a pretty high % of false positives on trich tests ), you'll know which set of cows it's in etc.
Also...if you ever lease bulls, make SURE they're trich tested.
