N E Ohio | You know, marriage really is not for every one.
My mother was widowed in her 40's and an aunt in her 70's. They used to spend every Sunday with us and they would sometimes talk about the fact that they had no desire to ever marry again. They both said they enjoyed their time alone...no one asking why they did such and such or having to run things past someone else. The aunt said that one thing they argued about their entire marriage was that she didn't put the cap back on the toothpaste. She relayed that after he died, the first time she picked up the toothpaste, she took the cap off and threw it in the waste basket. LOL.
Perhaps your friend is completely happy with her life.
She is at the age where most men she knows have already had at least one marriage....so would come with baggage. A friend's mother was remarried on her 80th birthday to her high school boyfriend...both had lost their spouses previously. They have been married 10 years now and she told me recently she has regretted it almost from day one. He insisted they live in his house and it is a virtual shrine to his dead wife. She has not been allowed to make any changes, even though it is totally not her style. She got new pillows for the couch, and his adult daughters threw such a fit that he insisted she change them back.
Maybe your friend is happier alone after being able to control her own life for so many years. It would be a huge adjustment. | |
