North Cental Mo.
There will always be a romantic notion of grass fed cattle being "the thing". But in the end cattle buyers want performance in the feedlots. How many acres of grass would a feeder have to have to do what one can do on a relatively small piece of land? Feeders don't like to fool around waiting for cattle to finish, grass fed is just too long of a turnover. And feeders make their money on a margin, so cattle could quadruple in price and their net really won't change that much. I think cattle will continue to be bred for feed efficiency, and that ball is on both sides of the fence, which is what we have been doing for years.
