MN | I found that when I hired some full time help on the farm and quit running around like a fool trying to work 90+ hours a week I was able to do a much better job of marketing and buying inputs. I have easily made up the cost and hassle of having an employee.
Also heavily influencing my decision to hire help was my Wife telling me we wouldn't be married much longer if I continued working all the time. My kids were 1 and 2 at the time. Don't miss these years of your kids life for any reason.
In my opinion only, the marketing services provide information assembled for you to review. I don't dare to blindly follow when they say to sell. They are all quite loud about telling you when they are right, and shut up pretty quick when things go against them. I subscribe to Doanes and Roach Ag. Both are pretty cheap for the information they provide.
One thing to think about is most marketing service people have a degree and many years of experience in the industry and they still mess it up.
