| Ed, you are right on the single car price/grade. I had enough malting barley one year in the 80's to fill a carload. I marketed it through my local coop but they did not have any other barley to sell. My barley went in one car, shipped to the Mpls. Grain Exchange, and everything was perfect-low protein (for malting), high plump, low thins, no stain, good test weight. But, it was 13.6% moisture and I was docked .35 for .1 point. The elevator manager was steamed for the high discount, but I still netted 3.50/bu which wasn't bad for an 85 bu/ac crop. | |
