Jim I feel I might have mislead you. By meaning stock density too low I was meaning you didn't 't trample your forage down. I didn't mean graze it all down. Its real hard for me to explain when I am just learning the concept myself, 4 years into higher density grazing.
As to the post above they are right cattle love the new grass as it is more tender but and admittly this is hard for me to believe, the more mature grass has more energy in it according to researchers, not protein. The thing to remember if one keeps eating the young more desirable plants you just keep triming the roots which will eventualy lower your forage more desirable tonage and let more undeseriable plants come in. That is the concept behind rotational grazing while the concept of high density is the same thing but all is knocked down so all has a more even chance to recover. Clear huh??
I will try to post a extreme pics. later today. The proponets of clean pastures will have a field day as the are wooly. Ben
