Driftless SW Wisconsin | A big factor in the reason to mow or not to mow pastures in a rotational grazing system is stock densityt and frequency of rotation. As Ben has told me, my density is too low this year for the pasture growth we have been fortunate to have in some areas. My cattle can't eat everything in a paddock before I have to move them so the next one doen't get too far Past prime. Last summer I had the opposite problem when it stopped raining after July 4th. Mowing helps even things out and keep the grass in the most paletable and nutritious stage of growth. Jmho Jim at Dawn
