| We've done both over the years but tend to band at birth the last dozen years. When our neighbors wanted us to sell bulls we kept 12 -15 bulls and banded the ones we didn't sell for breeding. Banded at about 6-700 lbs. Since we finish all our calves we had a good idea how they performed in the feedlot. Every late banded bull gained 1 lb less per day. Needless to say after 3-4 years we quit selling bulls. Too much of a headache messing with a few. | |
