CNY | I managed a dairy from 2010-2019. We checked at 35 days, if pregnant then again at 60 and 180 days. Yes your vet is expensive but so is feeding an open cow. If I was still doing it I’d consider switching the 180 day to a milk test and still palpate at 60
Edit to add we had 2 20 cow palpation rails and pens to sort all the groups into beforehand. Vet would check one rail then while doing the other we reloaded the first one, back and forth. He used to complain he didn’t make any money because he’d only be there for 45 minutes and 10 of that would be talking about the weather while he put his boots on. You didn’t say, but if you’re paying the vet to wander around your barn that’s on you
