Agreed. Perhaps give until mid April to get it in decent conditions and if it is still there at that date you can hire a custom harvester and sell grain until the harvest bill is paid. Offer those terms in writing before March 1. The important thing is to grant the extension in writing with you controlling the crop past the extension deadline.
