C IL | You have to stay alive to be in the game to play the game. Seems like plenty of smaller supposedly lean organizations have worn out equipment and facilities and not enough help. I farm near the HQ area of two large regional coops and it is always easy to ring the bell on overhead spending and expensive inputs but somehow those facilities are never big enough or fast enough even when they methodically follow a CapEx facility improvement plan.
The thing I think will be interesting is will a generation of aggressive sole proprietors retire and be replaced by multiple family member operations or will some succeeding generations band together to get some economy of scale and help as the large farm equipment and operations slowly continue to match up with the small retail location - fertilizer storage/spreading, precision ag/planning, warehouse space/spraying/seed, grain handling systems, trucks. |
