Not so fast, if it were that simple it would have happened already. You can go to the river but you'd just be buying it from an ADM or some other middle man, not truly direct. They'll take their 50 dollar cut for processing the deal and you'll be still be 50+ under the local price but you'll have to truck it and store it... so you'll be just spinning your wheels. If an operation gets big enough to be part of some sort of buying group where it is truly direct there is some more savings there. Or if you save your NH3 in a bullet.

If it were easy anyone could but up a shed with a leg and sling fertilizer, and they'd do pretty well if they could stay 50 under the competition... but it's never worked.
