Subject: RE: Cattle fencing questions

Texas
Steers on feed are probably the easiest to keep home. After a month they aren’t too athletic anymore. Ideally they spend most the day laying around.

I have 4’ woven wire with a 12 gauge barb on top up by my house. Oilfield pipe corners with a double H and kicker T post about every 15’ because I’m cheap. Oilfield pipe drove in the ground every 7 T posts. I’ve only had one mad heifer escape, she tried to jump it and got high centered took me a few hours to get it back looking right. Fence was a week old and I’m not sure I’ve ever been madder.

I run a cyclops boss charger around most of the pasture. Once calves get big enough to get shocked in dry ground the cattle generally don’t touch any fence. It can be off a couple weeks before they ever try it.
