Southeast WI | Any spare money we had we tossed equally into the kids funds as early as they were born. As soon as they could work around here (about 10-11) they punched the time clock like anyone else. Till they were about 17 years old 75% went into college fund. Later on they had other things they wanted to buy so took a bit more from earned wages. We provided a vehicle for school, didn't let them waste money on stupid things kids will do (like boys buying old diesel pickups and pissing away thousands on it). End result both are out of college, they worked through college and lived away AND both have several thousand left over.
My wife and I had no college debt thanks to forward thinking parents and or grandparents providing a chunk of money for education. We wanted our girls to start out well, too. And both have solid degrees for solid careers. No art or philosophy major type crap because we set expectations early and let them find their way. | |
