Blooming where I am planted!
Ick, I've slept on those Sleep Number things when I've traveled for business and to me basically they are a glorified air mattress.
I have a firm mattress and that was fine when I was a bit younger but now that I am in my 40's, I put an egg crate thingy on top of it and it is just right...firm but with a little softness. I've tried pillowtops as well while staying with friends and they were too soft and squishy for me.
For a hotel bed, the Doubletree has wonderful beds...slept really well on those. I guess they are pillowtop but I loved it. They are called Sweet Dreams and I think you can buy a new one from their online store. You could try staying at a Doubletree for a night to check it out for yourself in person.
