Subject: Very few acres are truly long term notill

I’ve been notill on beans since around 90-92. Can’t remember for sure. Tried notill corn around the same time and it just didn’t work well back then.

Most all my beans still go in notill however there are random years I’ll run a 6631 ahead of them on some fields.

My corn is semi notill. It gets NH3 with a medium aggressive shank and then a harrow in front of the planter. However There are some fields randomly that get a FC ahead of the planter. Also my COC is worked.

So I would consider myself mostly notill however I am not never till

I have seen zero reset by doing occasional tillage. Actually it needs done from time to time. My earthworm population is healthy and I have good soil structure.

Notill has done two things over the last 30 years. It has taken some pretty average ground with OM that were in the 1 and 2’s and brought them up to mid to upper 3’s. It’s also raised yields significantly. I don’t attribute all that to notill however a lot of it is
