Subject: Never till vs occasional tillage

West Central MN
Asking for a neighbor so don't shoot the messenger.

Suppose someone has farmed notill for 5 years and then the fields are getting rough, or stratified, or wet, or whatever reason someone wants to do tillage again one spring. And then back to no till. How much damage is done by one field cultivator pass? Is the clock truly set back to 0 or is your soil going to heal faster than a true conventional tillage system?

Opinions from all sides welcome.
