A good part of what has happened to the Angus breed is popularity and trying to be all things to all people. A lot of traits are antagonistic. Are they a true maternal breed or are they a calving ease or carcass breed. And they need to grow. It has become a merry-go-round (there is another term that comes to mind but can't be used here). Look at the milk EPD's on many stud bulls. Milk production is not a maternal trait but rather a growth trait. Are the daughters really suitable for areas that take 15-30 acres for summer pasture on a decent rainfall year? No one wants to think of pulling a calf. But when is enough, enough when it comes to low birth weights? A lot of yearling bulls get used on heifers and then eventually cows. Do you really need seventy pound calves out of mature cows The list goes on. Randy is on to something about expecting little calves to mature to large sizes. Sort of like the chickens that couldn't stand up because they kept increasing their breast size. Again the biggest problem I see is that numbers have replaced true knowledge and experience.
