Missouri

I'll have to listen to that later, but I hope it hits on some of the key issues.

So few understand the benefits of proper phenotype. The shortcuts used in the calving ease race, and later the marbling chase, were detrimental to the cow herd. No one listened then, and no one will listen now.

In many ways, academia failed a whole generation of cattle owners. They weren't creating breeders, they were creating owners with calculators convinced all they needed to know was right there in the numbers. Those of us who sat through those classes during that era all remember instances where we spoke up and asked questions we knew the answers to only to have professors sweep them aside to discuss the new numbers being created. Part of me would love to sit through a few of those classes today just to see what it has morphed into.

Old breeders everywhere must be smiling as they watch the chickens come home to roost from every direction.
