North Central Texas | I can agree with his thoughts. The pap genetics have been a known for awhile now. Some of these extreme low birth weights are a cluster. Our feedyard deaths stay under 1% even with some calf fed, but all the things he says a producer should do we do. I don't have short dumpy Angus either. I think if we dig deeper, those I want smaller cow genetics are where some of these problems originated from. The development issues were big in the shorts of the 30s-60s. I just wonder how many of the smaller cattle are carrying those old lethal genes from the old days. | |
