North Central Texas | I haven't seen the heart problems either and I select on carcass merit. I do know pap has been looked at but I haven't used a line that that would be an issue in today's world. It was more a imo where those problems may be coming from. There were developmental issues in lines back in the 60s and cattle died because of it. We should be diverse enough today to not see those problems unless you have guys trying to breed back that way... God help us.
We feed cattle in western Kansas for years but never had them finishing right now. I think more and more that the calves that would have been exposed to that kind of heat in life weren't the dead cattle. They would be few and far between being close to finished in a yard right now. Us fall calves in the south would have been out by March and spring calves would have just gotten started good. Nature and nurture might have had a hand over genetics on that.
