I agree.  Our change from 7.5" to 15" was a concession to planting equipment.  I think 7.5" is better if you can do an equal job of putting the seed in the ground.  The equipment we used for 7.5" was not able to do as good a job as a 15" planter, however.   The drill can do a good job, but the planter will do it without constantly fiddling with depth and down pressure in every field, which results in much greater productivity.
