Subject: RE: Welding a diesel tank

nw pa
Once got a used diesel tank for a culvert it was 8 foot in diameter and thirty foot long. Had to burn the ends out of it. called my BIL who is known for doing anything for a buck and the sister of course had no complaints. He ran pick-up exhaust into for about 20 minutes. we then placed one torch at the bottom of the tank stood a good distance back till it burnt through the tank. wasn't any explosion so leaving the first torch blowing fire into the bottom we cut the ends out. Personally I would not have done it but it worked. don't think I would try it with a gas tank. Wating for that first torch to burn through without blowing to kingdom come was nerve racking enough.
