I cover all exhaust pipes on the equipment I ship, though not because I'm worried of turbo bearing failure. Mainly its to keep road debris and birds out of the exhaust system, as well as to shut the mouths on the truckers whining about how they're going to fail the turbo. If I don't feel like going up there to tape it over, oh well.

One experience has stuck with me a long time. I was waiting in a pickup in a truck stop parking lot while the driver was inside.. A boy, I would guess about 10 years old came walking through the lot and spied a tractor on a lowboy trailer. He picked up a handful of pea rock from the lot and was trying his darndest to "make a basket" in the curved exhaust pipe of that tractor. Not sure if he ever hit the opening of that pipe, but he tried.
