Subject: Re: On farm storage question

Near-north Ontario, French River
When running your numbers keep in mind you will have some additional expenses beyond just the cost of the bin and drying costs. There will be insurance on the bin and its contents, some labour to load/unload and maintenence over the years. Yes you will most likely still come out ahead when building your own but let a bin of grain go out of condition and those savings disappear in a hurry. Also keep in mind that generally speaking, the basis on your corn will appreciate whether its stored on farm or at the elevator( maybe not penny for penny though ), BUT having farm storage also opens up alternative markets to you as well.
