I used to push 18,000 pop. until we had some drought years then backed off to 16,000 the last two years. We had some good rains this year. Early on to fill the soil profile and later during pollination and grain fill. I have already harvested one field that made 143 bu./a with the 16,000 pop. Our average APH is between 75 and 85.
Planting varieties with goo ear flex is critical.
