I would expect Merlin could provide locally appropriate advise, being much closer to you. That is the reason I kept mine generic not specific. To my thinking there is not enough difference, on paper, between the two varieties to choose. There may be, again on paper, varieties better suited to your soil, climate, pest pressures, and management style than is being offered by your local dealers.
You have some perfectly valid criteria that was unknown to us at the start of the thread.
I would think that Potato Leaf Hopper resistance would be a major consideration in Ohio. That little sucker seldom swings through our corner of the world. In my lifetime I have planted a hopper resistant alfalfa only one time. Then I planted it for it's aphid resistance.
I believe Forage Genetics INC supplies much of the certified seed for a long list of seed companies.
