Subject: RE: Corn on Corn vs. Corn on Bean Yields

Blue Earth, MN
Took a field today that was 3rd year COC and was about 5 bushels less than 2nd year. Obviously weather is the largest factor. Another reason was probably N or lack thereof to get to the same yield levels as the corn on beans. Variety also played a role. We'll see about the N. I do have a spot where I put on three different levels of N. We will see what kind of yield difference is noted. I'm guessing this may have been a year where 300 lbs of N could have been put on and the yield changed slightly. Growing season was just way too short. I've also heard some COC yield reports in our area and they are signifcantly lower then the COB.

Looking like our corn on corn ratio is about 0.8-0.85. Corn on beans is looking like 0.6-0.65.
