Subject: Corn on Corn vs. Corn on Bean Yields

Blue Earth, MN
How are the C.O.C yields comparing to the corn on beans this year? Better, worse, the same? Any hyphothesis on the difference if any?

Our corn on corn is about 5-10% less then our corn on beans. However, I will add the corn on corn is still yielding above what we planned for last winter/spring when we were trying to decide which crop would return the highest ROI. Our beans yielded about what we had expected. Thus, even with the lower yields (compared to corn on beans), it still made the most economical sense to plant more corn on corn.

A few of my theories for the lower yields are: 1) nitrogen rate and timing of application, 2) cold wet spring, 3) very dry August.
