Subject: Re: Corn on Corn vs. Corn on Bean Yields

We have shelled only one field of COC so far. Yield was off from the other corn we have shelled but that field has a lot of low, wet ground & has a crrek thru it so there was a lot of water damage plus lots of rootworm damage ( triple stack corn) in the low ground. 12'+ of rain in 8 days didn't help.

The last 4 years COC has been our best corn. I'll add, beans following 2 years corn has also been our best beans in that same time period.

I should add, where we are running 2 years corn the first year we plant an early season variety, usually 106 -108 day. 2nd year we plant a slightly longer season variety, usually 110 - 112 day. Not sure if this makes any difference in yield for the 2nd yr corn but the earlier season corn the 1st year usually gives us less fodder to have to deal with. Also, add an extra 40# of N to compensate for the N that beans would have given but do reduce P 30% & K by about 50%
